About

MNS SB Marine Group Text WhiteThe Malaysian Nature Society Selangor Branch is represented by several special interest groups, of which one is Marine. We promote marine conservation and raise awareness through educational and marine programmes and skills training for members and the general public.

The Dugong (Dugong dugon), left, is our mascot. Its “vulnerable to extinction” status by the World Conservation Union reminds us why we should make an extra effort to safeguard marine species and their habitats.

Member-based and non-profit
Established in 1940, the Malaysian Nature Society is Malaysia’s oldest member-based non-profit organisation. Although its headquarters in Kuala Lumpur employs a full-time secretariat staff to conduct scientific studies and form policies on the conservation of Malaysia’s natural heritage, the gems of MNS are its members – students, individuals, families and corporate members. Every state has a branch office, and many special interest groups to cater to everyone’s interests – from birds to bats, reptiles and sharks to caving, photography and living green. See how we are all connected. To join MNS as a member, please click here.

Marine SIG Committee
Every June/July, the Marine Special Interest Group has its get-together where a new committee of MNS members is formed to help organise events. The committee meets at a mutually convenient time and place at least four times a year and keeps in touch via What’sApp and e-mails.

Urban Nature Centre / MNS HQ Auditorium
Many of our talks and pre-trip briefings are held in a room at the top of the red stairs of the Urban Nature Centre located next to MNS HQ at JKR 641, Jalan Kelantan, Bukit Persekutuan, 50480 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The entrance gate on the left (refer to photo above), leads to parking for about 20-25 cars. Car-pooling is encouraged. If driving using Waze: https://waze.to/lr/hw283cg9g3. If using Google Maps: https://goo.gl/maps/gttf6VtCtSr. Try not to miss the left turning into Jalan Kelantan, otherwise it’s a round about way of getting back here.
